A cool and elegant, even an optimistic, piece, this was made in May, 1998. Layered scratchings, scrapings and scrubbed-out handwriting ensure that the surface is dense with time and history. In contrast, the rust-red oval entering from the top is smooth and serene: an egg, the molten heart of the earth, a rising sun, a cross-section of a growing tree? We read it as a promise.
