Marsh Tit

Marsh Tit
Winifred Austen

Austen has beautifully captured the distinguishing marks of this tiny bird: the shiny black cap and the sharp little beak. Clearly, the wind is shaking the catkins - and it is fierce enough also to ruffle the soft down beneath the bird's wing. Austen's portrayal of an individual creature in a particular place is exquisite.
