Hauling Timber by George Soper

One of Soper's favourite themes - the marvellous heavy horses at work. Though man and beast are working as one, it is the lead horse's portrait which is full of character and he commands the foreground. To emphasise this, the perspective is shortened, so that we get a real sense of the dynamic power of the animal, with mane flying in the wind, as he strains forwards, towards us.
