The Buffet
Joanna Carrington

A cool nun in dark glasses sits, supping tea, amongst a collection of curious characters, depicted with a joyous disregard for conventional perspective or dignity. The wonderfully red formica table tops and the baggages on the floor suggest that this is an anonymous railway or bus station cafe. Joanna Carrington (in the form of Reginald Pepper) has captured that mix of weariness and anticipation which characterises a brief and ad hoc gathering of disparate people who are about to go their different ways.

Carrington's alter ego, 'Reginald Pepper', appeared in the late 1970s and shared the wonders of 'his' innocent eye.
